Comment: We are living in Sofia and very often escape to the mountain for the weekend. I am quite reserved for the quality of hotel services offered in Bulgaria, especially by the so-called 4-start, big, famous hotels. They usually have a high price, but nothing to defend this price really..also usually the attitude in such hotels is awful - that's why I've always preferred small family hotels. We have stayed in Rila hotel and Lion hotel in Borovets, and I was dissatisfied with both. That's why, when we headed for Borovets yesterday, was in despair that we would be accomodated in the next big disappointment.
We selected the Ice Angels hotel by chance, it was the first among a few hotels we wanted to check. What was my amazement when we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist, who offered me to show me the room, give us a baby cot for our younger son and a free bed for the bigger son. Both for free. The prices of the double room were funny compared to the other hotels so I chose to see the studio lux type of room.
For 99 BGL/night (~ 50EUR) we got a super spacious room, with modern furniture, fireplace, view to the mountain, breakfast for 3. I was so astounded - couldn't believe we got this for this price!!
Before we parked at their free parking, the baby cot was brought in the room, the additional bed was made, the fireplace was fed with wood.
The breakfast was good too, though they seemed to have too insufficient personnel and sometimes did not manage to replenish the eaten food.
But in general - this hotel made me believe in Bulgaria one could get an excellent service for the money he pays. After all, 50 EUR is not a small amount for people living in Bulgaria...although in Europe as a whole this is nothing.
I intend to visit this hotel when the ski season begins - it's directly on the ski pistes so it will surely be excellent. The pricing will be different but the price deserves the service!!
