Comment: Our family rented the "deluxe" suite for two weeks and I have to say that in all my years of traveling we have NEVER been more sorely disappointed in a hotel, frustrated with staff, and disgusted by the food! The hotel was a pre-paid arrangement and we were so uncomfortable with the tacky, ill-kept room, the bugs in the bathroom, the rude staff and the "fraternity house" like furnishings, that we sought other accommodations for the final three nights of our stay - more comfortable with paying double costs to at least get a clean, non-leaking shower, clean sheets and the promised air conditioning. This hotel's write up is a pile of gross misrepresentations bordering on outright lies. The town of Veliko is quaint, with breath-taking views around every corner, and the people in town are warm and friendly. However ANY OTHER HOTEL in town is better that the GRAND HOTEL!!!

Comment: We just returned from a trip to Bulgaria. We spent several days in Plovdiv and then went to Velinko Turnovo. We booked the Grand Hotel prior to leaving the USA. It was rated highly so we expected it to be nice place to stay. When we arrived the outside needs some work but the lobby was impressive. When we went to our rooms we were very disappointed. They are in need of major repair. The rooms are clean but very dated. The bathrooms need work. The service needs attention. They differently catered to groups and we were a family of four. We were promised a breakfast and that was minimal, we could not even get coffee or juice. When the tour groups were at the hotel the breakfast was great but the days they were not it was pot luck. The rooms are overpriced and lack basic maintenance. I do not recommend this hotel and think it does not a deserve a 4 star rating maybe 2 stars.
